THE HISTORY

The land for the church was purchased in 1904 from Mrs. Frances Temple. In 1905 a brush-arbor was built as seemed to be the case for most of the A.M.E. Zion churches. During this same year a wood church was erected. The first pastor was Rev. Cameron. Some of the known members were Nathaniel Green, Essex Headen, Richard Veneer and Ulus Glover.

There were many pastors: Rev. W.O. Waddell, Rev. J.Q. Johnson, Rev. L.E. Steel, and Rev. C.T. Thornton. During their charge the church was a mission church. Other ministers were Rev. W.P. Drake, Rev. G.W. Murphy, Rev. W.C. Mitchell, Rev. A.A. Johnson and Rev. T.H. Spruill. Sometimes during these ministries, the church became a circuit with St. Matthews A.M.E. Zion church located in Pittsboro.

Some of the other ministers that served here were Rev. C.T. McNeil, Rev. C. Steadman, Rev. S.D. Judd, Rev. J. Palmer, Rev. C.T. Simmons, Rev. O.W. Wicker, Rev. F.C. Covington, Rev. E.A. Alston, Rev. P.J. Sikes, and Rev. R.H. Johnson. During Rev. Johnson's tenure a new building was in the process of being built.

Rev. Lynn Baldwin (early 1960's) continued with the building of the church. The church was completed in 1965 when Rev. C.T. Farrar (1965-1973) was the pastor. Rev. Hooker (1973) was the pastor for a short; he left due to illness. Rev. Melvin Perry (1973-1977) was the pastor during the time that the Fellowship Hall was added. Rev. L. J. Jefferies (1977-1980) was the pastor when new pews and windows were purchased. The church was also renovated at this time with the bricking of the church.

Rev. Annie P. Hart (1980-1982) became the first female pastor of the church. The laying of the cornerstone and the church dedication occurred during her leadership. During Rev. Hart's tenure we were no longer a circuit church with St. Matthews. Other pastors were Rev. J.C. Gray (1982-1987), Rev. Allen Moore (1987-1993) at this time Glover's became a circuit church with Terrell's Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church located in Pittsboro. Rev. Dorothy Wilson (1993 -1998) we ceased being a circuit church with Terrell's and became a station church. Rev. Corey Little (1998-2001), Rev. Anthony Davis (2001-2002), Rev. Ted Lane (2002-2003), Rev. Joyce Farrior-Green (2003-2004), Rev. Gene Horton (2004-2005), and Rev. Galyn Wilson (2005-2007).

Rev. Gloria Moore (2007-2014) during her leadership many renovations occurred and she organized many fund-raising projects. In 2007 Pastor Moore had a vision to begin recognizing the church's anniversary. Rev. Judy C. Bowden (2014-2019) Install New HVAC unit, Constructed handicap Ramp and as well as remodeling Dinning Hall. We continued to grow spiritually, financially and continued to beautify God's house. We added a gravel parking lot during her tenure. She taught us to understand the true meaning of tithing and how blessings are received. In 2019 Rev. Edward Spence, Jr. was appointed to the church and is taking the church to another level in spiritual awareness. Under his leadership the following have been established: monthly deaconesses' meeting, class leaders' meetings and other department planned meetings, the creation of a church website and the reestablishment of our Facebook page, using the internet as another tool for God's work, expanding church ministry in and outside the community. Purchase 13.2 acreage, Bible study continues to be a focus at twelve noon on Wednesday and establish a teleconference bible study and Facebook live broadcast on Sunday doing worship service.

The pastor and members continue to work on the church in order to make it a total worship experience for the congregation and our visitors. Without the work of our former pastors and members we would not have celebrated 110 years of Honoring Our Past; Treasuring our Future. We count it a blessing and seek God to put more love in our hearts. We pray that each year we celebrate our anniversary that it will grow and that we will not forget the struggles and the commitments of the past generations. Many of our members have pasted but their memories are still with us.

With the onset of COVID 19 like other churches we are having t do worship and bible study differently than in the past but with the help of God we are still worshipping and sticking together.
